Town and surroundings
Blanes is located on the south of the Costa Brava, 40 kms south of Girona and 65 kms north of Barcelona.
Blanes has traditionally been a village of fishermen. And, although it still is so (Blanes owns one of the most important fishing docks in Catalonia), since the arrival of the tourism and the demographic rise of the village, it has also become the commercial and services capital of the region, always maintaining a balance between the tourism and the ordinary life of the village and the region.
The beaches and the coves are certainly the village’s most important heritage and what appeals more tourists and visitors during the summer. As a cultural heritage distinguish the botanic garden Mar i Murtra, considered one of the most beautiful in Europe, which was declared as a good of national cultural interest by the Generalitat of Catalonia (regional government of Catalonia).
Barcelona, thanks to its geographical situation, lying by the mediterranean sea, its marvellous weather and its great renewal after the 1992 Olympic games, it has become a top world-wide touristic destination, to the point that it is nowadays one of the top 10 most visited cities in the world, and the fourth in Europe, just behind London, Paris and Istambul.
